DRESS CODE

 

We ask that parents and students accept their responsibilities concerning proper appearance.  Proper appearance not only makes a good impression upon visitors to the school, but has been shown to have a high relationship to behavior.  Parents may be contacted or students sent home when a student’s appearance is considered detrimental to his or her normal school progress and orderly operation of the school.  In order to promote an environment conducive to learning, all students at BCHS will adhere to the following dress code:

 

PANTS:

        Pants may not have holes or any other inclusions, such as safety pins and excessive, and/or inappropriately place zippers.

        No Pajama pants or pants with writing across the buttocks. 

        Must be worn at the waist (no sagging) and be an appropriate size for the student.

        Skirts/shorts must be knee length or longer.

        Skirts must not have slits higher than knee length.

 

 

SHIRTS

        Any shirt or sweatshirt, as long as it is school appropriate (see paragraph below for appropriateness).

        All shirts must have sleeves – no tank tops.

        Hooded sweatshirts, hood not to be worn while in school.

        No visible midriff or cleavage.

 

 

OTHER

        No chains, spikes, wallet chains, dog collars, confederate flag items, or skull and cross bones.

        No headwear (i.e. hats, bandannas, visors, sunglasses).

        Shoes must be worn at all times.

        Coats of inappropriate nature, such as trench style coats, must be placed in locker upon arrival to school, see below paragraph for appropriateness.  Teacher has the right to ask student to remove his or her coat.

 

APPROPRIATENESS:

Clothing or hairstyles which cause a disruption of the educational process are not permitted.  In addition, any item that is gang-related or with obscene, vulgar, lewd messages or racist references are prohibited.  Furthermore, any item with suggestive jokes, offensive pictures, symbols or graphics are prohibited. This would include clothing and/or accessories that advertise drugs, tobacco, or alcohol products, violence, sexually explicit language, images or innuendoes, etc. 

Those who come to school out of compliance with the dress code or dressed in unusual, vulgar, or attention-getting garb will not be allowed to attend class or circulate through the school until their attire is corrected.  

 

DRESS CODE INTERVENTIONS/DISCIPLINE

First Offense:                ISAP & Parent Notification

Second Offense:           ISAP & Parent Notification

Third Offense:               ISAP, Parent Conference, & Friday School

Fourth Offense:             Suspension from school 1-3 days for defiance of authority.
